Fellowship Eligibility

Indicorps is looking for passionate, self-motivated changemakers of Indian origin who are committed to public service and have the capability to spearhead a project under challenging circumstances.  Past Fellows have come from a wide range of backgrounds:  from physics PhDs and public health specialists, to investment bankers, classically-trained musicians, community organizers and more.  No matter your level of experience, you must be ready to persevere with maturity, sincerity, and purpose.

Individuals are required to apply specifically to projects of their interest.   Although detailed project descriptions are provided, Fellows will be expected to further shape and expand their projects in collaboration with the organization at which they are serving.  The program requires a minimum commitment of one year, although some projects specifically ask for two-year commitments.

Prior to applying, please read the Fellowship Overview , Fellowship Details , FAQs and Our Vision, Values and Philosophy sections for background related to the Indicorps Fellowship and the organization.

Applicants should:

  • Be of Indian origin (by definition of the Government of India) or Indian citizens.
  • Have at minimum, a university degree or five years equivalent work experience.  Although not mandatory, a few years of work experience in a rigorous setting is highly recommended.
  • Have sufficient English fluency to complete documentation and engage fully at orientation and workshops.
  • Be Visionary, passionate and qualified for their particular project choice.
  • Be willing to commit to Indicorps’ values and approach to grassroots development.
  • Be prepared to step out of their comfort zones.
  • Be low-maintenance, resourceful, flexible.
  • Be willing to respect local dress, customs and diet (many communities are strictly vegetarian).
  • Be respectful of the diversity of religions, cultures and traditions in India.

If you are not of Indian origin, do not qualify for the Fellowship program or do not think the Indicorps Fellowship is right for you, but are interested in working in India, please visit Opportunities at Indicorps for other ways to participate.

Please Note:

The Indicorps process begins long before you enter or see it.  Each Fellowship is handcrafted in the spirit of service:  creating projects with grassroots non-profits, selecting the right Fellow and setting up logistics for each individual project takes months of preparation.  We try our best to select Fellows based on their fit for individual projects and Indicorps.  While the Indicorps selection process is highly competitive, Fellows, once they commit, are not replaceable.

If you are selected, we ask that you make sure that you are 100% certain of your ability to commit to the full duration of the Fellowship.  If you choose to accept a position as an Indicorps Fellow and then choose NOT to matriculate, please understand that you are letting a lot of stakeholders down.
